What a Grade 10 Mathematical Literacy diagnostic is
Exam Diagnostics ZA is a South African service that marks a full Grade 10–12 mock exam paper mark by mark and reports every lost mark, with a strategy report and a video walkthrough, within 24 hours. A Grade 10 Mathematical Literacy diagnostic is that service applied to one paper: your child writes it at home on the clock, sends photographs of the pages, and you get a mark with the reason behind every lost mark beside it.
Your child can do the arithmetic and the mark says otherwise. In Mathematical Literacy the calculation is rarely the hard part; working out what the question actually asked is.
Why Grade 10 is the year to do it
Grade 10 is the first year your child writes full subject papers under exam conditions. The mark matters less than what it reveals. A habit formed now — showing working, watching the clock, reading the question twice — is worth three years of marks.
Early in Term 2, before the June papers, so the June mark is not the first honest measurement of the year.
After June, when a disappointing result needs a reason rather than a resolution to work harder.
In the September holidays, to check that whatever changed after June actually changed.
What the Grade 10 Mathematical Literacy papers cover
Paper 1 covers the basics and routine procedures across every topic. Paper 2 covers the same topics in longer, multi-step, real-world contexts. You pick one when you order. Grade 12 papers run to 150 marks in 3 hours; Grades 10 and 11 follow the same shape over less content.
Paper
Focus
Main topics
Paper 1
The basics and routine procedures across every topic.
Finance: income, expenditure, interest, tariffs and budgets; Measurement and conversions; Maps, plans and other representations; Data handling; Probability
Paper 2
The same topics in longer, multi-step, real-world contexts.
Extended finance and cost comparisons; Measurement in applied contexts; Maps, plans and scale drawings; Interpreting and comparing data sets; Probability in context
CAPS or IEB. IEB papers lean further into unfamiliar contexts, so the skill being tested is reading a new situation rather than recalling a procedure.
Where the marks go in Grade 10 Mathematical Literacy
Every lost mark is sorted into one of five reasons. Two of them — accuracy and not written down — mean the method was right and the mark was already in reach. Those are the marks a report can hand back before the next paper.
Misread. A value is taken off the wrong row of a table, or a tariff bracket is read one line out, and every answer built on it follows the mistake.
Accuracy. Rounding too early, or converting units once too often, turns a correct method into a wrong answer.
Not written down. A conclusion is given without the calculation that justifies it, so the marks for the reasoning are never earned.

Recoverable?
Wrong method
The route chosen could not reach the answer.
No — this is a gap to teach
Accuracy
The method was right; the arithmetic slipped.
Yes — the method was right
Not written down
The working stopped before the mark was earned.
Yes — the method was right
Misread
A value or instruction was taken off the paper wrongly.
No — this is a gap to teach
Didn’t remember
A formula or definition was not recalled in the moment.

How it works
You buy the paper, your child scans a code and writes it in 3 timed hours at home, then photographs the pages and sends them in. Marks come back in 1 hour and the full report in 24, by email and WhatsApp.
Pick a deal Mark Recovery: the whole subject.

Where it leads One diagnostic at a time.
There are no set dates. Your child needs a calculator, a quiet room and a phone. The full process is on how it works .
What the report shows
Eight pages, built around one question: which of these marks were already within reach? You get the mark and the mark in reach, why each mark was lost, the recoverable marks question by question, the concepts behind them, and a video walkthrough of what to fix first.

Read a complete report before you decide: the sample report is the real thing, eight pages of it.
What it costs
A single paper is R299. Mark Recovery, both papers of a subject and a follow-up paper, is R749. Finals Ready, three subjects, is R1,990. A printed copy couriered to you is R250 once per order. If a paper turns up fewer than 10 recoverable marks, it is refunded.
Worth: the same papers and follow-ups bought one by one.
When should a Grade 10 pupil write a Mathematical Literacy diagnostic?
Early in Term 2, before the June papers, so the June mark is not the first honest measurement of the year. There is no fixed date — the paper is available within 24 hours of payment and your child writes when it suits you.
Is this a real Grade 10 paper?
It is a full paper set for Grade 10 Mathematical Literacy in your chosen curriculum, written under exam conditions: 3 timed hours, closed book, no help. If your child uses notes the report will be wrong, because it measures what happens in an exam.
What if the problem is that my child does not know the work?
The report says so. Marks lost to wrong method, misreads and forgotten definitions are gaps to teach, not marks to recover. Where the gaps are knowledge rather than exam technique, we recommend tutors who work from the report.
Can I order for more than one child?
Yes. One order can carry several children, each with their own grade and papers, and the volume discount applies across the whole order.
