What a Grade 11 Accounting diagnostic is

Exam Diagnostics ZA is a South African service that marks a full Grade 10–12 mock exam paper mark by mark and reports every lost mark, with a strategy report and a video walkthrough, within 24 hours. A Grade 11 Accounting diagnostic is that service applied to one paper: your child writes it at home on the clock, sends photographs of the pages, and you get a mark with the reason behind every lost mark beside it.

The marks swing from test to test. Accounting punishes a single misplaced figure harder than almost any other subject, because everything after it is built on top of it.

Why Grade 11 is the year to do it

Many South African universities open applications during Grade 11 and make provisional offers on Grade 11 final marks. That makes this the year with the shortest gap between a mark and a consequence, and the year where a technique problem is most expensive to leave undiagnosed.

  • Term 1 or early Term 2, while there is still a full year to change how your child writes.
  • August or September, before the finals that carry the provisional offers.
  • December, to start Grade 12 knowing exactly which marks are within reach.

What the Grade 11 Accounting papers cover

Paper 1 covers financial reporting and evaluation. Paper 2 covers managerial accounting, and managing resources. You pick one when you order. Grade 12 papers run to 150 marks in 2 hours per paper; Grades 10 and 11 follow the same shape over less content.

PaperFocusMain topics
Paper 1 Financial reporting and evaluation. Company financial statements; Cash flow statements and their interpretation; Financial indicators and analysis; Fixed assets; Audit reports and the role of the auditor
Paper 2 Managerial accounting, and managing resources. Manufacturing and cost accounting; Budgets: cash budgets and projected income; Inventory systems and valuation; Reconciliations: bank, creditors and debtors; VAT; Internal control and ethics

CAPS or IEB. The IEB weights interpretation and commentary more heavily than the mechanics of the ledger.

Where the marks go in Grade 11 Accounting

Every lost mark is sorted into one of five reasons. Two of them — accuracy and not written down — mean the method was right and the mark was already in reach. Those are the marks a report can hand back before the next paper.

  • Accuracy. One figure posted to the wrong side, and every total that depends on it is wrong, even though the method was right.
  • Not written down. Workings are done on a calculator and never written down, so the marks allocated to them cannot be given.
  • Wrong method. An indicator is calculated with the wrong formula, or the wrong two figures, and reaches a number that cannot be right.

ReasonWhat it meansRecoverable?
Wrong method The route chosen could not reach the answer. No — this is a gap to teach
Accuracy The method was right; the arithmetic slipped. Yes — the method was right
Not written down The working stopped before the mark was earned. Yes — the method was right
Misread A value or instruction was taken off the paper wrongly. No — this is a gap to teach
Didn’t remember A formula or definition was not recalled in the moment. No — this is a gap to teach

Questions parents ask

When should a Grade 11 pupil write a Accounting diagnostic?

Term 1 or early Term 2, while there is still a full year to change how your child writes. There is no fixed date — the paper is available within 24 hours of payment and your child writes when it suits you.

Is this a real Grade 11 paper?

It is a full paper set for Grade 11 Accounting in your chosen curriculum, written under exam conditions: 3 timed hours, closed book, no help. If your child uses notes the report will be wrong, because it measures what happens in an exam.

What if the problem is that my child does not know the work?

The report says so. Marks lost to wrong method, misreads and forgotten definitions are gaps to teach, not marks to recover. Where the gaps are knowledge rather than exam technique, we recommend tutors who work from the report.

Can I order for more than one child?

Yes. One order can carry several children, each with their own grade and papers, and the volume discount applies across the whole order.
